Ayler called me at 4:15 - yes, he still does the 7 PM cheer and plays O CANADA on the piano to go with his neighbor on the guitar! He had just gotten in from a scavenger hunt where they had to find noises, and I could hear Hiero and Beckett just roiling around as usual. Of course I said hi to them, but Ayler thought that I believed THEY were on the phone... "No, this is still Ayler - you can tell that's Beckett because of his different voice!" Jon was telling him in the background to ask me what Sidekicks I was going to eat tonight - I told him that he was an ugfart! (Ayler asked what that meant, so I told him that it didn't matter) Then Ayler asked what I was having for dinner because they were having nachos - I said I hadn't decided yet, but I had chicken croquettes AND added Western Family Parmesan cheese (non-red container) to my shopping list for tomorrow because of a stupid asshole vegan on Reddit, actually!

He said he could only talk to me for ten minutes today since he had half an hour total to talk to three people, but wanted to set up a talk time on the weekend since he'd have more time then. Sounds good - Saturday afternoon it is! Ayler said he had to go, which is fine by me.

I discovered redrum AGAIN this morning - I THOUGHT I TOOK CARE OF THIS TWO WEEKS AGO! Good thing I didn't bleed onto the bed! Called Shoppers to see if they had a toilet paper shipment, and left right after I got a YES answer at 9:10 on a 401. I remembered the brand new rear-door boarding for buses to protect against the coronavirus, but I was able to get on at the front because I had my Asian shopping cart with me, and "needed" this! While I was waiting, I definitely wanted to "social distance" myself from the smoker on the bench who was horking as well - you're SO GROSS and are MORE likely to get this virus!

I bought on-sale Heinz Zoodles, on-sale Softsoap lavender and chamomile soap refill, on-sale $2 Campbell's Hearty Vegetable Rice soup x2, on-sale $2 Knorr Sidekicks x4 (Fettuccine Alfredo / Creamy Bacon Carbonara / White Cheddar Broccoli / Creamy Parmesan), and the real reasons I went to Shoppers anyway: one small bottle of No Name bleach, President's Choice MAX SOFTNESS toilet paper, and NEW President's Choice Moroccan-Style Mint / Mint Refresher tea. Got home at 11 on a 407, which is fine by me.

Full aisle of paper products, sensibly limited to one per person!

It's MARIO DAY today! After COFFEE TIME, I went out at 3:10 on a 401 to help with the kids. Surprisingly, I just managed to get the 3 despite the elevator buttons not responding to my commands. I got to the house at 4:10 despite an electric scooter not knowing how to maneuver smoothly on the bus (I had to move), but those things can be unwieldy! Thank GOODNESS it stayed on the bus AFTER 16th, so I wasn't delayed any more! Once I got in, Beckett wanted to play with me, but my washing hands coincided with his diaper change. After that, we played with blocks / magnets / balls ("boh-boh!") / Play-Doh. He ALMOST licked the Play-Doh lids, looking at me to see how I'd react. I said that was gross and not to do it. He said "come up / yeah / block / ma-net / open! close! / lid / pease / light / purple / Auntie" a lot. Later, he almost fell down, but I was there to catch him and put him on the couch, where we sat together and "talked" about the "funny" blanket and the happy / sad eggs.

When Ayler told me to guess what time he went to bed last night, I actually got the right time: 10 PM! Apparently, there was a choir concert last night at St. James (Jon's old orchestra hangout space), WITH a rehearsal before AND a mass choral recital afterwards, so nobody could leave early even if they wanted to! I realized that they had scheduled it for the day after Daylight Savings, which is NOT GOOD! Hiero spent his time making Superman signals and wanting Popsicle sticks and special paper. He also was less than polite when he laughed at people. Apparently, roasted broccoli is not his thing!

Beckett wanted me to look out the window at the alley because of the lights - good choice! Hiero wanted me to play a game, but I wasn't up for that. There was a felt book with multiple felt pieces, and Beckett identified an X for Tic-Tac-Toe correctly some of the time. He also knew what the moon was, so he's getting smarter! I told him what a flower was when he identified it as a boh-boh (hahaha), and he picked it up from me. When I took my phone out to take photos that were CLEARLY of the food and NOT THE KIDS, Beckett said "gung-gung"... hahaha, I thought he associated the phone with Uncle Joe last week!

Ayler said that their trip is after Tuesday next week, so I said that I know that they get to listen to TICKET TO RIDE on the ride over. "How do you know?" was easily answered since I saw Jon's Facebook status earlier about borrowing someone's copy. Hiero told us about MINECRAFT, but Harmony wondered where he learned about that. The school computers offer that as an option for ALL the kids, apparently, so Harmony says she'll talk to the teacher about that. I did not volunteer that there was Preschool MINECRAFT - she'd be horrified! I left at 7:30 and surprisingly got home at 8:35, despite the stroller at 16th! If you can't be ready when the bus stops, then don't be surprised if a passenger gets on before you maneuver your stuff off the bus! I know it's safer to wait till the bus stops, but come on now - be aware and at least make your way toward the door!

After COFFEE TIME, I went out at 2:50 on a 401 to help with the kids. I would have taken the earlier 401, but someone took FIVE MINUTES to maneuver a wheelchair into that bus! I don't expect people to be extremely fast when it comes to that, but I always appreciate the actual wheelchair users who are fast and efficient movers when they see others are waiting! (she was... not, and held up everyone else) There went any extra time I had to buy lotion and dish soap at Shoppers! At Marine Drive, I actually managed to get a 3 within a few minutes, which was amazing! No incessant talker today, thank goodness. Finally got to the apartment at about 4:10 in the rain, and Beckett was sitting on the mat and waiting for me - so cute! I gave the kids some Mars bars and Coffin Crisp plus a Christmas card later on. Hiero confused a CARD for a CAR, asking me where the Christmas CAR was, hahaha! Harmony set him straight, though. (my phone had randomly saved photos of Beckett eating out of a pot earlier, hahaha)

Ayler and Hiero did origami / cut-out snowflake crafts at the table after one too many "no scissors on the ground" directives that got ignored, so Beckett and I spent our time rolling balls to each other / being distracted by "boh-boh" (the bling on my white sweater AND the pom-pom on my Santa hat, which he batted around at times) / "reading" books while sitting on my lap (he picked up "yummy" from me!) / his giving me his blocks and balls and emotion eggs / his saying "yeah" to my simple questions of whether HE would get the balls instead of me (but he didn't) / his knowing where my fuzzy purple winter coat was with all the big buttons. Harmony said that balls were his very favorite thing in the whole wide world, which I can believe! (LOTS OF ALLITERATION!) She'd taken him across the street since there was a Christmas tree with lots of ornaments, and he'd loved seeing all the "boh-boh!" He also wanted to look out the window, but was stymied by the Venetian blind being down, and thus blocking his view. His other window was blocked off by chairs and couches, but he managed to throw balls in that restricted area, which I of course got out for him.

We had pork and mushroom jong (sticky rice) with garlic, cherry tomatoes, gai lan, and water for dinner. Beckett actually ate more than usual, but Harmony thought that was down to the sticky rice, some of which did fall in his bib, but luckily did not smear or smudge on my Heat Holders socks! Ayler told me that he had a Christmas concert next week, and a winter party because his class had received a lot of points to go towards one. NICE! I asked if he was going to have ornaments, but he says no because it's not Christmas. That made sense, I told him. After they learned about butterflies and cocoons and the chrysalis, Ayler wanted to hug me! I said that he could hug me, paused, and added "only if you want to." He did! That was amazing!

Ayler and Hiero didn't like it when Beckett climbed on them, but he's so light! While Harmony was out of the room for a bit, Ayler told me that he gets screen time at school (as does Hiero), and his mom doesn't like it. I had to laugh, since I could see this coming years ago! When I left the apartment at 7:50 (so late!), Harmony said that Beckett had called me "Attie," and he called me that again while pointing to me. HE KNOWS WHO I AM AND WHAT MY NAME IS - SO CUTE!Hiero told me seriously that his school friend knows Punjabi and she wanted to teach him some language skills - good for them! Harmony wanted to know if I could come on Friday the 13th, so I said yes. As it turned out, I hope fervently that I used up ALL my "bad luck" tonight - I kept on missing trains and buses galore! EVERY SINGLE ONE! I got home at 10, which is pretty fucking late!

DOUBLE COFFEE TIME! Waiting for Auntie Bessy at Kam Do Bakery this morning proved to be a waste of 40 minutes all told. Good thing I just managed to get the 401 on the way there and the 407 on the way back, getting home at 9:40 AM when I'd left at 8:50 AM! Ugh! The Canucks played Winnipeg today at 5, and lost 4-1... ANOTHER EMPTY-NET GOAL?!

I then left at 7:40 to go to the IGA at Garden City Centre at Blundell, but first encountered a lady at the bus stop who somehow just could NOT wait ten minutes for a cigarette! She scrutinized the bus schedule and knew that the 401 would come in four minutes, so what did she do? Why, sat down on the bench and lit up a smoke, of course! Karma came for her in the form of a 401, so she had to butt it out on the bench before she got on the bus and then had a major coughing fit before she and a male companion got off at Minoru, presumably to smoke prior to whatever they REALLY wanted to do!

At least I saw that bus stop advertisement for Ocean's Tuna: Ginger Lemon Sesame, Peri-Peri, and Sundried Tomato Tapenade! Wasted my time at IGA too, since they didn't have the Fresh Gourmet The Better Chip in Jalapeno flavor: "It's a Walmart brand!" they said as I bought NEW Pillsbury Pizza Pops in Double Cheeseburger flavor. After COFFEE TIME, I went out at 11:10 on a 414 to see Sue, the housing manager at CHIMO. I saw a guy clapping his hands like a seal and slapping his knees on the shuttle bus, but he wasn't wearing any headphones that I could see. What the heck?! Since I was going to the building anyway, I also took along the Lays chips and roasted seaweed for Rachel - Numb and Spicy Hot Pot, Wasabi, Kimchi, Deep-Ridged BBQ Pork, and Deep-Ridged Spicy Chicken! Sue seemed pretty understanding and encouraged me to advocate for myself, dropping Dave McDonald's name, so perhaps I'll do that. Squeaky wheel and all of that, I suppose. When the appointment ended an hour later (she thinks I'm animated and have skills and humor?!), it turned out that Daisy was out to lunch at just past 12-ish.

I figured I'd kill time by taking the 410 to Yaohan so I could find some curry cuttlefish at Curry House to horrify Mike with a food photo, haha. Turns out that they only had curry beef balls and the like, and Osaka Supermarket didn't seem to have fresh cuttlefish either! I eventually went to Golden Rice Bowl and ordered broccoli and fried cuttlefish with fried noodles at 12:40 despite the fact that I'd eaten breakfast at 10, but finished the whole thing in one sitting after taking the requisite photo for Mike. That later turned out to be a bad idea since it's been feeling like a rock all evening, but there was nothing I could do other than take two Pepto. Good thing it hasn't made me feel overly BLERGH!

When I was trying to make my way out from Brighouse Station, an older man who slightly smelled like pee caused a delay in the elevator by trying to tell me to go back in the elevator, and THEN held everyone up by moving at a snail-like and glacial pace out the door. Why does it take you 30 seconds to take two steps and then be outside the elevator?! (I described this to Mike later, and he says I have a way with words! HAHAHA!) Time for a cane or walker, old man! I told him to hurry up, and he just gave me a dirty look! I'm not normally an impatient person, but others have PLACES TO GO AND CONNECTIONS TO MAKE!

Good thing this idiot didn't cost me the time I needed to make it across the street to the 406 by Kam Do Bakery! I went back to the CHIMO building, and luckily, the door was open to Rachel's work. So I asked Daisy to do me a favor and give a bag of stuff to Rachel next time she was in, thanks! She thanked me in turn, saying she'd put it in her room. That was nice and brief, and I finally got home at 2:35 WITHOUT encountering any more problems or delays. I'll eventually shower for tomorrow's Dublin Crossing pub hangout once I feel less full...

I went to the eye clinic at 9:45 on a 401 (which I got just in time) for the six-week followup today at 10:45 after COFFEE TIME (20/30 vision is a good improvement even if I can't read fine print), then had lunch at Yaohan before seeing Rachel at the Caring Place for the last time. At Brighouse, I encountered a rude wheelchair old man idiot who assumed I was cutting him off at the fare gates - nope, I'm just faster than you, and other people also have places to go! He should also watch what he says and isn't the only person entitled to the fare gates. Any empathy I might have had for him having only one leg was just drained in that moment.

Dr. Wise recommended cheap reading glasses for now since my eyes still look healthy, and wants me to come back in six months on January 3. I went to Yaohan and killed the memory dragon of messaging people on the 6 Davie / 6 Downtown bus routes. Mom picked me up at 5 so we could go to Tsim Chai for dinner before the VOS (Vancouver Oratorio Society) choir concert that Dad was doing at Fraserview. BEEF TENDON NOODLES! She had discovered the pocket dial from my phone to Pothead Mike and complained that it had cost her one extra dollar, then wanted to use MY phone to call Steph. She ended up using her own phone, HA HA! I had to explain the concept of a pocket dial to her... and of course vent to Steph while Mom was in my bathroom, ha ha ha. Mom even complained that I didn't have Jon and Steph in my phone or WhatsApp contacts - I don't use WhatsApp at all, but I could for video calls at some point, I guess.

Later, Mom said that "my brother's wife's sister" (just say "Auntie Kwai") is going to be living with them for a couple of months since she lost her low-cost housing in the move from BC to Ontario, and she can't get used to life over there. She also told me redundant stuff about Maria Tam who just died from lung cancer, some missionary friend Winnie who will be staying with them (from July 12) for a week or so after they get back from Toronto on July 4, and how Harmony supposedly wants me to help with the kids when they're away from June 18 for the Oratorio Society concerts with some Hong Kong chorus. Well, I'll wait till Harmony actually says something to me about it first before I commit.

The conductor of the Oratorio Society is named Kemuel, and the associate conductor is named Neville?! One of the youth singers is named Jermyn Wong?! The overall concert was all right, I suppose. Lots of Psalms, lots of music - I saw Auntie Catherine around the washroom when I went. When I looked at the program, I saw Libby's name, so I had to tell Vania about it on Facebook. Mom suspiciously wondered why I was online, and asked if my mobile data was off - yes, of course. I did not help her get online during a lull or the intermission, ha ha ha. You are an observer, and you believe that actions tell you a lot. You know people better than they know you.
You are more of an introvert, and because of this, you are mysterious. You keep a lot inside until you are ready to open up.

There was an unexpected water shutoff today! Of course Amacon posted a notice at the front door to let people know... come on! Not everyone leaves their apartment once a day! UGH! I briefly called Chrystal at work at 4 to wish her a happy belated birthday since she'd been off last week. She thanked me and said she appreciated it. The water was FINALLY back on at 5:45, NOT 1 PM as stated in the notice! Geez.

It's so fitting that I'm listening to Radiohead's KARMA POLICE right now! Carol told CANUCK NATION a minute ago that her racist ex-husband Stuart has just died from his three different kinds of cancer. I'm sorry that she's feeling sad, though. I guess I can take him off my Block List now...

From Julie M. and DR. PHIL: Ozias?! Apparently, it's a variant on King Uzziah of the Bible. Come on, people - there has to be a middle ground between that and (let's say) King David!

From Julie M. and DR. PHIL: Borden is a boy name?! She thinks of the Borden Cheese Company, while I think of Lizzie Borden! Also, the dude kind of looks like Jeffrey Dahmer from this angle... o_O

glowing_dragon: (Bert and Ernie)
COFFEE TIME! I found out that Chrissy has deleted her Facebook again - what the heck?! The Canucks played Washington at 4 today, and lost 3-2 on bullshit calls...

I left at 2 on a 414 to the Caring Place to see Rachel at 2. Then I got an eyeball ultrasound appointment this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Paul's, so I had to look up the transit there. I was home at 3:50 on a 407, which is pretty fast. The Canucks played the Oilers at 6 in the sixth and penultimate game of their 2018-2019 training camp, and lost 6-0 complete with a hat trick.

From Julie: Wisper Joerres?! Her parents didn't even spell it with an H, not that it would have been any better!

Fun fact from my UNCANNY BATHROOM READER #29: Classical composer Arnold Schoenberg feared the number 13... and died on Friday, July 13, 1951.

It's National French Fry Day AND Friday the 13th today!

glowing_dragon: (Bert and Ernie)
The retina specialist's office called me at 3:30 to say that they'd scheduled a cataract surgery consultation appointment for me, on July 12 at 9:30 AM, which is a Thursday. Since I realized that would be the day before my planned dinner with Chrystal, I attempted to call her at work to reschedule, but I got voicemail. I just tried ten minutes later, and got her on the phone. Without any preamble, I told her why I was calling. We eventually rescheduled for July 6, which is good.

From Julie: Dea-Dra?! Is that a really dumbed-down version of Deirdre?!

Cortez, Cherise, Daja, Lyna, Malacai, Javarious, Rylie, and Tamika?! )
glowing_dragon: (OMFG Yay!)
I did call Chrystal at work yesterday when I got home. We made plans for Friday the 13th, which doesn't bother me. Broadway London Drugs, it is!

Andrew called me at 9, so I was ready for him to bring over my NEWER COMPUTER WITH WINDOWS 7! :D

He came by at 9:45 and spent 20 minutes going over the specifics of the Nvidia computer case / power supply / various components, saying that Teunis is moving to Saskatchewan at the end of the month, telling me about his mom's huge quantities of chili in a Dutch oven, and saying that he was looking forward to a shower after a 14-hour workday. I bet! Thank goodness Chrome synced! Yes, I paid him his $40, and can probably make a $50 payment next time to pay everything off.

Yam Yaryan?!

From Julie M. and JUDGE JUDY: Deneika Reynolds?! I can see Danica or Danika, but WHAT is with that bad spelling?!

glowing_dragon: (LJ Drama)
Darwin Tabacco?!

From Julie: This is Tune... you have a bad name, dude!

glowing_dragon: (Consumer Whore)
I went out at 3:15 on a 401 so I could get a bubble tea from Big Orange for National Bubble Tea Day. I also got on-sale President's Choice oatmeal cookies for National Oatmeal Cookie Day, NEW Sweet and Spicy Ruffles chips, and on-sale Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies from Shoppers Drug Mart. Then I went to London Drugs for on-sale Ragusa Noir / Ragusa Blond chocolate bars x2 and a yellow LifeCandy shower pouf, getting home at 4 on another 407.

Ragusa Blond chocolate bar!

In the MOTHER 3 Chimera Lab, Lucas and Boney come across this stuffed save frog in a roomful of animal skeletons. "Even when stuffed, a frog is still a frog."

I showered and did laundry today. The Canucks played the Golden Knights at 7 tonight, and clawed back from a 4-1 deficit, but lost 5-4 in a shootout. Vegas even tapped their sticks and stayed on the ice to shake both the Sedins' hands.

Harmony emailed the family about Hiero's birthday party later this month on the 21st at noon - at least I know where Pizzeria Barbarella IS, and it doesn't conflict with the hockey game later that evening or anything!

From Oddee: Reading this obituary, I don't want to know that Chan Holcombe's dad circumcised him with a pocketknife!

From Lancer on Youtube: Salsa the monkey is delivering Happy Boxes for Fassad in MOTHER 3. He goes to Mayor Pusher's house and meets Mayor Pusher and his wife Elmore. This is an oil painting titled "Mt. Oriander in Summer."

From Aunty Acid: Who names their kid CELEM?! Emerald is a cool name, though!

glowing_dragon: (OMFG Yay!)
After COFFEE TIME at 4:45, I left at 6:30 to meet Chrystal at the Broadway London Drugs at 7-ish for a belated birthday dinner treat! I had her Want Want Snowy Crackers from Big Crazy, of course. I was standing around reading MAD MAGAZINE when Chrystal came up behind me. We summarily went to Original Joe's after she said that I could pick anywhere I wanted because it was her treat, and we waited about 20 minutes, "sharing" a table with two other guys. She had a burger with dill sauce and fries (which I ate - plus the pickle from the burger), and I had steak and salmon bites with vegetables instead of rice because that would take too long. We talked about her nephew Ethan liking water / numbers / Science World, and definitely knowing what he (doesn't) want, and calling Chrystal "Yee Ma" / not hugging Auntie Kathy after he says he will. I told her about Ayler and Hiero both wanting to hug me - and going through with it - and the Thanksgiving dinner recently. Yup, Jon and Harmony really need a place to live, and my parents are travelling AGAIN. The waitress apparently loved my "warm" red sweater from Sears, so I definitely let her touch it, haha! COMPLIMENTS!

Chrystal's going to take two weeks off at the beginning of December, and it sounds like she really needs it! I said I'd call her at the end of November to set something up since that made sense to me! I wondered whether she'd thought about living on her own, and people have definitely asked her that before! Not that there's anything wrong with living with her parents, of course! We talked about Christmas cards being on sale at London Drugs already, THE AMAZING RACE CANADA, just watching TV when she should go to bed way before 2 when she has to work at 9, the MEGA SUSHI dinner, a new Chipotle opening up around that area soon, her sleeping in and "wasting" her weekend mornings, Emily / Mike, Phil and Grace's baby girl, and not going to church as much. When we had to leave (after I exchanged a bent fork for a new one, and after thanking Chrystal for the dinner), I wanted the guys beside us at another table to make way, but got into a conversation with one of the (brown-haired / scruffy-ish) guys about Bo Horvat / Reddit / my looking 21 / Donald Trump / his jokingly blaming me for his not getting a burger anytime soon. I even touched him on his shoulder and arm, which is pretty good for me, all things considered! I got home at 10, and then proceeded to blow people's minds in the r/hockey Discord when I revealed that I'd been alive in 1991! (context: going to the West Edmonton Mall)

From Julie S. and Snapchat: I think my Icy Original Lemonade may be expired... Sell by November 13, 1657?!

Steak and salmon bites from Original Joe's! Sterling® Silver sirloin and Pacific salmon in a sweet soy glaze over brown rice; with shredded carrot, red pepper, and green onion. Creamy sesame steak sauce on the side.

Today is Friday the 13th and No Bra Day!

From Pete and The Spellery: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH! On Friday, Oct. 13, 1307, King Philip IV of France, with the consent of Pope Clement V, falsely accused The Order of the Knights Templar of heresy to relieve his debts to them. They were tortured into confession and burned at the stake. But you probably thought the date was about cute spooky shit!

From Laid-Back Corner: Culleen Williams?! That should be spelled as COLLEEN. It also reminds me of the Scottish dish known as cullen skink.

From Laid-Back Corner: Dirdra O'Flaherty?!

From Not Always Right: Jon Dangerously?! So are you dangerous?
