2019 Yearly Recap!

This is the 2019 recap. Fitting for the last day of the year, no?

JANUARY

* Hung out with Vanessa and baby Cassidy pre-surgery at Lansdowne: Fresh Elements bubble tea, good dumplings at the food court, GOLDEN DRAGON SUSHI, and more! She helped me open the ridiculous eyedrops bottles, too! [Jan. 7]

* Had eye cataract surgery at Mount St. Joseph's - yikes! Luckily, I had love and support from my friends, and my parents DID drive me home! [Jan. 10]

* Had a one-day followup appointment at the eye clinic. Thank goodness that Barry was able to drive me! Things looked healthy! [Jan. 11]

* Crashed at Deb and Dylan's for about a week. Declan and Elysse liked me from the start, and it was pretty interesting and funny. ("I have my dad's old phone, Elysse." "Did he die?!" Haha!) Lots of meals and Swiss Chalet plus lamb and ribs and packed lunches! I appreciated their support, for sure! [Jan. 11-16]

* Had my one-week followup appointment at the eye clinic. My eye still looked healthy and there is no need to rush on any new glasses! I got hit up for cash at Vancouver City Centre, but I said NO. He should have fucked off instead! [Jan. 17]

* Had Hiero's birthday party: glow-in-the-dark bowling at Grandview Lanes! Dylan and Deb kindly gave me a ride back, and Mom did NOT have to insert herself into our post-church plans by thanking them for "looking after" me! [Jan. 20]

FEBRUARY

* Got a chance to three-way call with Kate and Pothead Mike right after the hockey game, which the Canucks won 4-3 in a shootout against the Flames! It was pretty good to hear their voices as we chatted about a bunch of things including Ed Kemper and the RCMP tank in Surrey. [Feb. 9]

Today is No Bra Day! After COFFEE TIME, I went out at 3:10 on a 407 to go to the family Thanksgiving Dinner. Killed time at Shoppers Drug Mart by buying on-sale M and Ms in Hazelnut Spread flavor, on-sale Life store brand honey lemon cough drops (the pharmacy students didn't understand the word "lozenge"...), and NEW on-sale Live Clean foaming body washes: Shea and Murumuru Butter, plus Mango and Aloe Butter! I must have LOST MY COMPASS CARD on the 3 Downtown bus (which I just managed to get at 4 PM) because I couldn't find it when I left Jon's! It definitely wasn't in my pockets or on the floor that I could see. I need to stop stuffing things in my pockets! UGH!

Anyway, I read six whole books to Hiero (BERENSTEIN BEARS / three STAR WARS / one BATMAN / one Monkey book) and remembered to enjoy the moments of him on my lap and listening. Ayler wanted to read the bus timetable, tell me about decimals (in Grade 2?!) and division in Grade 3, and said "Are you kidding me?!" in Cantonese a lot. When Harmony got back with Beckett, he wanted to play with me, so I made him laugh at the baby pop-up toy. He also went up to Mom, who didn't seem to know he was there, so Jon and I had to say that Beckett was saying hi to her! Of course he also wanted to play with the HP printer display, which had changed into Chinese for Hiero-related reasons. Dad eventually managed to fix it, so was blocking Beckett from playing with the display. He wanted to grab my hat, but I said no. Mom said something about SIM cards and Steph's number and phone. Sure, whatever. She also referred to me as "Fat Aunt" with him - UGH!

Due to the dinner configuration, I sat next to Beckett while eating cheese / apple slices / turkey / gravy / kimchi / cranberry sauce / pizza bread / Brussels sprouts / salad. He grabbed my sweater a few times (I JUST washed it!) and threw food around as usual. Later, he wanted to crawl to my chair when he'd finished eating and Harmony had cleaned him up, but was blocked by Ayler's special chair. I did play with him more after I myself had finished eating and washing my hands: he still throws the little Play=Doh container at people, as well as all the balloons that were on the floor.

Then Beckett cried when a balloon popped! He also cried when he was really done with dinner, as in real tears and everything! Later, Harmony had to put him down for sleeping, so we waved goodnight to him. Harmony was surprised when Beckett imitated what I was doing; that was the FIRST TIME EVER that he waved to ANYONE, so I must have the magic touch! (like I did with Hiero in 2014 when he wouldn't let Harmony sleep) Since Jon agreed to drive me to King Edward Station later, Mom and Dad left because there were only 12 inches of room between the carseats in their vehicle. Hiero asked me about that later, using the correct family names, so I gave him an answer. I later discovered that I had somehow lost my bus pass! Jon gave me $6.50, which was it (that's fine) and enough to cover Tuesday's fare as well. Got home at 9:10 on a 401 (I'd missed a 407 by a few minutes) and then thought that maybe the bus pass could be between the couch cushions. If not, then I will call the Lost and Found Office / Ministry on Tuesday morning.

9/15/19 is also a palindrome date! I looked up Uncle John's Truth, Trivia, and the Pursuit of Factiness Bathroom Reader (Bathroom Readers Institute) online, and after getting an error message on the Indigo website search, I managed to find it on the site! Then I looked up the Richmond Chapters number, and also managed to put it on hold for me since I was going out to the mall later anyhow - YAY! After COFFEE TIME, I went out at 4:10 on a 407 to meet the family for dinner at the Richmond Centre White Spot. In addition to the Bathroom Reader, I also picked up Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Beyond The Bizarre 16th Annual (Ripley's Believe it Or Not) up since it was just $15. Yeah, it made my bag moderately heavier, but I could handle it. Since I was at Shoppers anyway to prove to Highspirits that a LOT of Nature Valley bars here (his favorite!) were CRUNCHY and you needed a bowl to eat them, I bought the three chewy kinds I could find. Bonus: They were ON SALE! Fruit and Nut, Dark Chocolate, and Mixed Berry!

Thank goodness the mall and White Spot had wi-fi since everyone was LATE! Harmony wondered what I was doing with my phone after she got back from buying clothes at The Children's Place, so I assured her that I wasn't saying anything about the kids on Discord, and she thanked me for that. Jon says that Jeremy spends a lot of time on Twitch, and figured I wasn't really a gamer - true, but it passes the time for sure! The boys greeted me with what I took to be HAPPY BIRTHDAY - better than Mom's greeting of "Do you know how to cancel a person who is dead?" Um, what?! Beckett just stared at me until he warmed up in the high chair - looking out the window, clapping, laughing, and slapping the table were all entertainment to him!

Discussed menu options, making my own decisions, Pirate Paks, various milkshakes, Monday / Tuesday plans (sure I'll go help out on my own birthday!), Kwong Chow with Uncle Stanley, Brooke, parking upstairs, texting,

After COFFEE TIME and getting some free NRG Detox Iaso tea samples from Shane in today's mail (yay for bubble-wrap envelopes!), I went out at 2 on a 414 to see Rachel at the Caring Place. We called Shaw and I managed to get my bill lowered by about $50 per month for two years in a row! I'll also get a new cable box and some other things next Wednesday when the technician comes by in the late morning or early afternoon. I killed time by taking advantage of the wi-fi there, in Richmond Centre, and outside Waves Coffee. Texted Paulo, talked to James about food, sent Mike a quick Hangouts message, and generally kept in touch with people. Someone in the V4F Discord server mentioned coffee, so I decided to check the London Drugs website to see whether the tall canisters were on sale - SCORE! I bought a NESCAFÉ instant coffee canister (October 1, 2018) for $10.99 instead of $14.99, plus NEW Late July bacon habanero tortilla chips.

Later, I met Frances for dinner at Pho Han after walking from Richmond Centre to Lansdowne and then taking the 410. Well, she offered to pick me up somewhere near Aberdeen Station around 6 since the restaurant is in one of those little plazas on Capstan Way. It was definitely out of the way, that's for sure! We talked about VCEFC people, my mom calling me for something which turned out to be an "invite" to one of Dad's VOS opera choir concerts tomorrow evening (I never check WhatsApp and she might as well just TELL ME WHAT IT IS ON THE PHONE), Ellen, Facebook, my malfunctioning microwave, her mother and dementia, my spicy pork blood soup, her spring rolls and grilled chicken, her paying for the meal (wow!) and dropping me off later, her brothers, and autism. I guess Mom will pick me up at 5 tomorrow from the courtyard with another bag or two of random stuff before we go for wonton mein or something.

It was good, but I am still glad to be home. I should have gotten her to stand around while I looked at microwaves in London Drugs since I have more than $150 cash in my wallet, but that's probably not what she had in mind when she said "grocery shopping." I just emailed white Eric to see if he can do it and then recycle the old one - then maybe I can give the Danby Designers 700-watt one to Paulo if and when that ends up happening.

Hester's husband Ni came by with someone from head office at 9:15 AM for a brief suite inspection today. His apologizing for bothering me was a first! Later, the Panasonic inverter microwave gave me an H97 error, which will cost $250 to $400 to fix. It's cheaper just to buy a new microwave starting from $80 or so! I called Barry about this, who agreed to help me pick up a new microwave next time.

Then Paulo came over at 4:30 to pick up Knorr hot and sour soup mix, Nissin sesame oil noodles to go with it, Koka Tomato noodles, Koka spicy black pepper noodles, Samyang Jjajang spicy Korean bean sauce noodles (chicken bomb terrorist noodles!), Maggi Letup Curry Kari Cili Api noodles, Penang white Curry Mee noodles, and Paldo spicy cheese Ramyun noodles. He also helped me with that stopgap Danby Designers 700-watt microwave after I cleaned the counter with a sponge. Surprisingly, it wasn't icky afterwards! I'll have to figure out how to get the Panasonic microwave to the electronics recycling depot. Pothead Mike thinks Mike is dead and is trying to reach out to me - HA HA HA!

Tried to cook some Delissio calzones in the microwave for lunch at 1:10. Got the dreaded H97 error instead! It had been smoking while cooking for a few days before this... good thing I didn't start a fire! My ex Mike's mom Vivian's boyfriend Robert bought it for me, so I guess it's fitting that the microwave gave up the ghost on what would have been our sixth anniversary.

After COFFEE TIME and SHOWER TIME, we learned that Steve had a migraine, so he was out for tonight. Totally understandable! I had to go back to Wireless Wave because I got an error message on my phone when trying to send texts! ("Currently unable to send your message. It will be sent when the service becomes available.") Apparently, that was an inconsequential error, and Walter didn't mind my coming in again. I can just imagine Mom's reaction tomorrow if I told her that he says hi and Happy Anniversary...

Paulo and I just met at Enjoy 1+1 Café instead, near Price Smart. Hong Kong-style café life! I had curry fried noodles (and cold milk tea) and he had curry fried rice. We talked about Darryl, Brian, Holly, Jeremy, the Richmond Night Market, money, Tony, Discord servers, Nate, and our future plans. It was nice and casual, and I got home at 6:10 on a 401. So nice to have those bus stops open again! Turns out he had Dairy Queen later, but it was good for his downtime.

I discovered redrum last night - UGH! After I had COFFEE TIME, Barry picked me up at 11:50 and we went banking and to Price Smart. I got on-sale Uncle Ben's rice x3 (Mushroom / Tomato and Herb / Jambalaya), Nissin black garlic oil noodles / BulJjamppong Korean beef seafood noodles / Paldo Volcano Chicken noodles / Nongshim Kamja Tang Myun rich potato noodles, NEW on-sale Charlotte's holiday butter cookies ($2 more for 430 grams vs. 340 grams for Royal Dansk), on-sale toys for Hiero's birthday presents where the original price even beats the Amazon price (EMOJI MOVIE Memory matching card game / Mega Bloks Smash Stunt Zeg truck), on-sale Cottonelle toilet paper x2, on-sale spearmint Dentyne gum, and Hainanese chicken which expires on the 23rd.

After that, I paid my Shaw and hydro bills online at home. Then I got a Christmas photo card from Janet S. (ghost_light) and Christmas presents and stuff from Julie in a bubble-wrap envelope! I went to the pharmacy next door at 1:30 to refill my prescription, showered, and did laundry today. Then I went to H and M to see if I could get sweatpants. No luck at all, even when I dragged an associate across the store! At least now I have the phone number and (mow that I'm home) the proper tag numbers for my preferred style of sweatpants! 604-279-1811 AND 063 658 68! When I got home and organized stuff, I called the store - they don't have that one because it's popular / best-selling, but will have a shipment in very soon, and said I should call in the late afternoon or early evening. Okay, then!

I got on-sale Arm and Hammer 50-load laundry detergent and store brand garbage bags at Shoppers, and on-sale bulk pads x2 (saving $1 per package) at London Drugs (just missing the 407) before hauling the heavy stuff home at 2:50 on a 401, having to get off one stop earlier because of the road closures and construction! Gotta remind white Eric about that soon... I also found a random Bench / Body men's underwear in her dried laundry. o_O

January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC was the beginning of time... for computers that use C-based time systems that is. ... which also happens to be 1969 December 31 4:00:00 PM PST. (short version: Someone at Discord screwed up, and it used a time value of 0)

I left at 2 on a 414 to the Caring Place to see Rachel at 2. Then I got an eyeball ultrasound appointment this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Paul's, so I had to look up the transit there. I was home at 3:50 on a 407, which is pretty fast. The Canucks played the Oilers at 6 in the sixth and penultimate game of their 2018-2019 training camp, and lost 6-0 complete with a hat trick.

Chinese Eric emailed me, white Eric, Jeremy, Jon, Christon, and Randal this morning about a Stanley Cup Final hangout somewhere - Washington Capitals and Las Vegas Golden Knights! I scanned the email (which had possible scheduling), but didn't see where the hangout was going to be, so of course I emailed everyone to ask where it was. Chinese Eric actually was on the ball with his email and replied to say that it was going to be at Jeremy's place. ("it has been brought to my attention," indeed) Well, I'm not giving up my Mike's Hard Root Beer for this one, so I'll just buy snacks later on in the week. Easy!

I showered and did laundry today. The Canucks played the Golden Knights at 7 tonight, and clawed back from a 4-1 deficit, but lost 5-4 in a shootout. Vegas even tapped their sticks and stayed on the ice to shake both the Sedins' hands.

I went out at 10:30 this morning on a 401 and mailed Christmas cards / Vancouver postcards / various stickers to Steph / Lisa / Fraser / Henry / Havarti, Paul Classy, Shiv in Germany, Mandy B. (dazzamre), Julie (julie709), Kitty (

Vancouver trams, Canadian grey wolves, BC Place, Gastown steam clock, RCMP officer on a horse, moose / squirrels / grizzly bears / Bighorn sheep, Science World, aerial map with orca whale / Canadian provinces and territories, Stanley Park totem poles, Harbour Centre and Canada Place, Coal Harbour and Stanley Park, Canadian Rockies grizzly bear, False Creek and Granville Street Bridge, and a downtown Vancouver panorama! I also bought new size 10 Jockey underwear at the Bay... luckily for me, it was on sale! Barry saw me on my way to the bus stop, and honked - I had to go around to the car's window in order to recognize him! I got home at 11:35 on a 407, which is fine. More time to do stuff for me!
