glowing_dragon: (OMFG Yay!)
After COFFEE TIME at 4:45, I left at 6:30 to meet Chrystal at the Broadway London Drugs at 7-ish for a belated birthday dinner treat! I had her Want Want Snowy Crackers from Big Crazy, of course. I was standing around reading MAD MAGAZINE when Chrystal came up behind me. We summarily went to Original Joe's after she said that I could pick anywhere I wanted because it was her treat, and we waited about 20 minutes, "sharing" a table with two other guys. She had a burger with dill sauce and fries (which I ate - plus the pickle from the burger), and I had steak and salmon bites with vegetables instead of rice because that would take too long. We talked about her nephew Ethan liking water / numbers / Science World, and definitely knowing what he (doesn't) want, and calling Chrystal "Yee Ma" / not hugging Auntie Kathy after he says he will. I told her about Ayler and Hiero both wanting to hug me - and going through with it - and the Thanksgiving dinner recently. Yup, Jon and Harmony really need a place to live, and my parents are travelling AGAIN. The waitress apparently loved my "warm" red sweater from Sears, so I definitely let her touch it, haha! COMPLIMENTS!

Chrystal's going to take two weeks off at the beginning of December, and it sounds like she really needs it! I said I'd call her at the end of November to set something up since that made sense to me! I wondered whether she'd thought about living on her own, and people have definitely asked her that before! Not that there's anything wrong with living with her parents, of course! We talked about Christmas cards being on sale at London Drugs already, THE AMAZING RACE CANADA, just watching TV when she should go to bed way before 2 when she has to work at 9, the MEGA SUSHI dinner, a new Chipotle opening up around that area soon, her sleeping in and "wasting" her weekend mornings, Emily / Mike, Phil and Grace's baby girl, and not going to church as much. When we had to leave (after I exchanged a bent fork for a new one, and after thanking Chrystal for the dinner), I wanted the guys beside us at another table to make way, but got into a conversation with one of the (brown-haired / scruffy-ish) guys about Bo Horvat / Reddit / my looking 21 / Donald Trump / his jokingly blaming me for his not getting a burger anytime soon. I even touched him on his shoulder and arm, which is pretty good for me, all things considered! I got home at 10, and then proceeded to blow people's minds in the r/hockey Discord when I revealed that I'd been alive in 1991! (context: going to the West Edmonton Mall)

I left at 1:55 on a 407 to make it to Jon and Harmony's and the store prior to playing with Ayler and Hiero before Thanksgiving Dinner. Since I left so early, I went to Shoppers Drug Mart to see if they had sriracha sauce. They did, as well as on-sale Scaeros / Coffin Crisp / Ghostly Kit-Kats / Scaries, plus NEW Korean BBQ Kettle chips! After that, I walked over to IndigoSpirit to see if they had the newest Bathroom Reader: Uncle John's OLD FAITHFUL 30th Anniversary Bathroom Reader (Bathroom Readers' Institute). They didn't since they were only limited distribution in BC, but I did manage to have someone help me at a kiosk so I could just have the book shipped to me at home this week. It saves me another trip out to the mall even if it is nearby! That took a while, but I still managed to be at Jon's place by maybe about 3:15 or so! Ayler asked me what I'd do if they moved downtown - well, I would probably take the train and the bus out to wherever they would be living!

The boys fought with each other as usual (and Hiero fell off the couch's armrest!), but I might have distracted them with the promise of reading to them. Ayler asked if he could sit on my lap, which was fine until my legs started falling asleep. There was a kiddy book with Legos to describe Bible stories, Chinese characters books, a Taan Moon book, a body book, and other things. Randal came over for a piano lesson and stayed for dinner afterwards. Dinner was beef stew with tendons, carrots, and typical Pho garnishes like bean sprouts (and Vietnamese subs!), plus an apricot / grain salad with feta and ricotta cheeses... so non-traditional, but still good! Probably a good thing that I have a turkey backup here at home! Jeremy came over later, which livened the evening up and made it more silly. We talked about Jeremy's cold, baby Henry's banquet (Jon can't attend because of Stanley's wedding on November 19 - but he doesn't even know what he's doing for it?!), Fred becoming a cop in Toronto (and seeing "shades of grey" in morality), the Whip, 12 Kings, Jen being way more conservative / less liberal than she was when we met her, documentaries, Tom Petty, Youtube jams, C+C Music Factory, LL Cool J, Ace of Base, pissing off Auntie Wylene with Salt-N-Pepa and Green Day back in 1994, Bob Dylan / Keith Richards, Silverchair, Bush, and seeing how much the kids knew about fall. We told them that Canadian Thanksgiving was in October and the United States had theirs in November, wanted to know if the leaves would turn blue, and generally had fun with them.

Ayler wanted to tie knots with his Vietnamese noodles, while Hiero wanted to bite the very hard pomelo rind to see if he could eat it that way. That's not how those things work! I saw a kindergarten worksheet with a colorful turkey on it - Ayler had managed to write his own name on it in a reasonably legible fashion! Jeremy brought up the possibility of becoming pregnant when you're already pregnant, so I said that of course there was a name for that: SUPERFETATION! Then he said that it sounded like I got that from a Bathroom Reader: he's SO RIGHT! Of course I had to tell them that I ordered the newest one to ship to my place! At about 7, I left after watching Hiero play train tracks by himself, bidding Jeremy a good night and thanking Jon and Harmony for the dinner. Jon actually thanked me for hanging out early with the kids, surprisingly. Harmony said that it was still pretty stressful since they haven't found a new location to move to yet, and they only have three weeks left in this place!

Ayler and Hiero also surprised me by wanting hugs before I left, so of course I obliged. I would NOT do "falling hugs" as Ayler wanted, though. Why? BECAUSE THEY WOULD HURT! On my way home, I decided to stop by the Oakridge Safeway to see if they had a "fabled" chicken-bacon-ranch sandwich as Milan Penner (Jen now has the same last name as she does!) had told me about YEARS ago in CANUCKS NATION or whatever the group chat was called then. I'd forgotten about that till Jimmy said something about it in Facebook messenger recently since she wants to meet him at some point. The Safeway did have made-to-order sandwiches at the deli, which was good enough for me. The sandwich even had guacamole, and I was also able to pay for a second bottle of sriracha sauce right there at the deli counter instead of having to go to the cash register just for that. I got home at 8:20 on a 407, and talked to the Canucks fan chat and Discord for a bit. Now, bedtime!

Good thing I discovered it BEFORE going to bed, otherwise I'd have had to break out the hydrogen peroxide! I told Classy, the r/hockey Discord server, and Jimmy about it too, poor people! Haha! I also was invited to baby Henry's 100-Day(ish) celebration next month when they'll be in town, so that's a good thing. I can also laugh normally now without it being drowned out by sudden coughing; also a good thing!

"You Are a Maximizer"

When it comes to everything in life, you're always looking for the best. And you don't mind if it takes a while to find it.
You look at every option before making a decision. You don't like to be rushed, and you often regret your choices if you are.

You're the type of person who checks out every item on the menu. You don't want to miss out on any gems!
People may be annoyed with how long you take to make a decision, but they will agree that your taste is extraordinary.

You are wise and quietly smart. You often know more than most people, but you tend to keep that to yourself.
You appreciate subtlety in everything. You think most people try too hard, and you always prefer nuance.

You are naturally stylish, and you've got that effortlessly chic thing down. You have an eye for beauty.
No one sees how much work goes into your look, and you like it that way. Your makeup enhances, but doesn't distract.

"You Are Chocolate Frosting"

You're the first to admit that you're a bit old-school, but you prefer the term "classic."
Unlike a lot of modern people, you don't believe in depriving yourself. A little indulgence is a good thing, especially if it's frosting!

You take good care of yourself, and you never forget to look after your loved ones. You are naturally thoughtful and generous.
You are the type of person who likes to work behind the scenes. You don't think of yourself as anything special, but people wouldn't want to live without you.

"You See the World as Somewhat Just"

You don't see the world in simple terms. What's just and unjust is complicated.
You believe that justice is sometimes served, both in and outside the courts. But there is plenty of injustice to go around.

You don't expect anyone to treat you fairly or unfairly. You do your best to protect yourself from life's uncertainty.

She wanted to come out to Richmond (either IHOP of Denny's) with her friend Wayne, whom I'd met at her Anton's birthday dinner. Sure, why not? I needed a break, anyway! I took a shower, and they were here at 6:30 or so. We talked about Jason ruining her day by not bringing eggs for her pancakes today, her vanilla milkshake and calcium, my country fried steak / toast / strawberry jam / broccoli / mashed potatoes / sausage gravy, the Richmond World Festival, the military, her pregnancy / potential baby names and gender (not Gertrude / Kathleen), her parents' divorce, Wayne's friend Kevin wanting to marry a full-time Twitch streamer from England, Vanessa's friend cutting off a friendship with a bridezilla named Marilyn who slapped her and berated her in front of a whole crowd of people, our stupid brothers, her parents' divorce, and the changes around Richmond. Last night, Tommy was being pretty annoying with his continuous Facebook messages, so I gave him one-word answers till he apparently got the hint. Then he dragged me into a Facebook group chat with Helen and Jimmy at 10:15 PM to talk about Jen and defend her behavior. We weren't too impressed with his excuses and "staying neutral" for a manipulative and defensive and condescending "friend," to say the least! Then I was not happy when Tommy messaged me earlier today by saying that he'd allow me my space, but I could talk anytime I was willing to. What?! You meld well with many different types of people, and you can bridge the gap in groups where members have little in common.
You don't take anything in life too personally and seriously. If you have a bad day or week, you know things will eventually even out.

From Reddit on July 27, 2017: Stop whining, StripedPinkBoxers. "The phrase "girl crush" upholds heteronormativity in such an unnecessary way!" I personally don't think so. In the past, she's even tried challenging me on what I'd think if Nephew #4 was in fact a girl. Nice try, but I'd treat a nephew and a niece the same basic way! Broccoli: "I am a broccoli and I look like a tree!" Walnut: "I am a walnut and I look like a brain!" Mushroom: "I am a mushroom and I HATE THIS GAME!"
