Today is National Sandwich Day! :D I had to change the clock an hour back - UGH! Shaw had a five-hour outage at Minoru Park - DOUBLE UGH! I survived by napping (had a dream that I couldn't get out of bed and the electricity was finicky), reading TRUTH TRIVIA AND THE PURSUIT OF FACTINESS (Bathroom Reader #32), texting Paulo / white Eric about Chinese Eric / Pothead Mike (no, I'm not thinking of losing touch if I switch communication modes!), and eating some Stagg Chili Southwest Chicken Style with jasmine rice.

The Canucks played Edmonton tonight at 7 in their first game of the 2019-2020 NHL season, and lost 3-2. Chinese Eric texted me yesterday afternoon wanting to come over today at 4 after lunch and errands, so I resigned myself to a lot of talking and said yes, getting the parking pass ready. I did have to give him the strawberry / original / mango / banana / peach / melon / apple Milkis cans, after all, and could also use him to pick up a carton of almond milk that I forgot last week at the store. He came by at 4 after COFFEE TIME and SHOWER TIME, wanting to watch the Leafs game, but also picked up a carton of almond-coconut milk from the store instead of the almond milk I wanted, saying that I'd failed to specify. IF I WANTED NASTY COCONUT MILK (WHICH I DON'T), I'D HAVE SAID SO! We did try the Dr. Oetker salted caramel cheesecake, which was okay. Then he said that printing out the Canucks schedule was a waste of paper - he should have seen how much paper I wasted on things which weren't perfect to me! Besides, it works for me when I want to plan stuff during the hockey season - SO THERE!

He left at 5 to exchange the milk at Price Smart... GOOD! By that time, I'd composed the email to him / white Eric / Jeremy (who'd thanked me for my "Happy Birthday" email earlier) / Jon / Christon / Randal about his proposed 12 Kings hangout on October 22 to watch the Raptors championship banner unveiling after we figured out WHY their first preseason game was at 3 AM. (it's in Tokyo...) We had Western Family 8-vegetable lasagna with multigrain pasta for dinner: Carrots / green and red Bell peppers / spinach / zucchini / cauliflower / broccoli / black olives! Also talked about his seeing Corey Hirsch at the art gallery, the Leafs-Senators game (Toronto won 5-3), bottled water, his doing the dishes, live-action remakes of things like ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS and ALADDIN, "you know" all the time (FILLER ANNOYANCE!), McDonalds / Tim Horton's hockey cards, that Grow-A-Husband, my guestbook, the SIMPSONS, Channel 22 highlights, and more. Then he finally left soon after the game ended, at 9:40. Now it's time for video game music to relax!

After COFFEE TIME, Eric M. picked me up at 7 so we could go to the Richmond Centre Cactus Club. Yay for both Erics, Randal, and Jeremy! I assume Chinese Eric was texting white Eric while we were trying to find parking at the mall, so I texted him saying just that, then he suddenly appeared when we had finally parked. We had to wait 45 minutes to be seated, so we just chilled in the mall coffee shop area while talking about Randal's sales guy taking them all out for lunch at that Cactus Club a couple of weeks ago, my giving Chinese Eric the last bag of Chitato Indomie Mi Goreng chips, Randal and Jeremy giving me birthday cards, the BC Lions (so boring), and Nathan not being able to make it. (HE isn't a flake!)

Once we were seated, I ordered a jambalaya rice bowl and iced tea. Randal had steak and frites with some beer, Chinese Eric had flatbread, white Eric had some blackened Creole chicken, and Jeremy had some butternut squash ravioli with prawns. Chinese Eric had a nosebleed halfway through dinner, but he wasn't sure what it was at first. I even took the napkin and moved it closer to the candle to see if it was sauce or something else. At least I wouldn't have to deal with that if it happened to Jimmy anymore! Chinese Eric tilted his head back and not forward, contrary to white Eric's Googling. (I had to go in as Cactus Guest)

We talked about our food, how bubble tea ISN'T some new fad, Jon, Harmony, Ayler, Hiero, Beckett, their not having a microwave (so they're the healthiest kids that Randal knows), Randal not taking piano lessons for the right reasons (and practicing was getting tedious), the automatic blinds ("why is it so dark suddenly?"), Justin Trudeau's blackface scandal, real-life Twitch streams, raiding Area 51, the Toronto Raptors memorabilia (white Eric had the right hoodie!), a future sports hangout, Jeremy not texting at all, Hiero's view on kindergarten, the fire outside, and just hanging out. They convinced me to order a dessert since it was my birthday dinner, so I did - white chocolate cheesecake! Then I found some Area 51 Naruto runners from a different angle on Reddit, and had to show Jeremy - he laughed! Randal commented that my phone's camera flash was really bright - well, the restaurant was really dark at that point! White Eric drove me home at 10:30, and it had really started raining then.

Today's date is ALSO a palindrome: 9/11/19! At 2:05, I called Chrystal at work to ask where she'd gone on her cruise since I'd forgotten to ask last time: Copenhagen as a starting point sounds nice! Then just in case, I invited her to the Cactus Club dinner on the 21st, but I know she might still get lost, so instead we made plans for Friday the 27th at the Broadway London Drugs.

I showered today after seeing Rishu at Touchstone at 4:30 and going to RPM for dinner at Captain Wa. Surprisingly, Nick is in for the Cactus Club dinner - I'm glad that both Erics, Jeremy (NOT Jman, Term!), Darryl, Paulo, and Flaps are in, too! Got home at 7:20 on a 407; phew! Found out that some random person had sent me an abusive PM - it's not MY fault you broke the DRAGON group rules and posted some sob story about your sister! I did talk to an admin as well, so HA! I'm glad she's out of the group now, and that another member agreed with me that it was annoying!


Dinner from Captain Wa: "Spicy" cod, fried noodles, mushrooms, beef, cabbage, zucchini, plus bonus broccoli and a bonus chicken leg!

Discovered that the front door lock is stuck and recalcitrant again before Eric M. gave me a ride at 6:50 to Los Cuervos Taqueria around Kingsway and Fraser, so I wondered how long it would take me to get in later on. I had Jeremy's 101 THINGS TO DO WITH BEER cookbook and birthday card, one bag of Indomie Goreng Chitato chips for Nathan's dad since Chi-Tat To is very similar, Chinese Eric's birthday card / Indomie Goreng Chitato chips x4 / iChoc Almond Orange, Classic, Super Nut, and White Chocolate Vanilla bars, and white Eric's Western Family Swiss 72% dark chocolate bar / NEW Heidi Chocolate Intense / Ginger / Himalayan Salt chocolate bars and birthday card. Nathan did not show up, but I offloaded everything to everyone else.

Saw Acer and said hi to Quan and Gino, of course. Then I spontaneously invited Randal to my own birthday dinner. Chinese Eric was confusing as usual and said he just got my "birthday message" - uh, which one? Facebook birthday wish, a text message about a birthday, or something else? I think it's best that we were just friends! He didn't really explain it well at all. I got a bison skirt steak taco after seeing multiple people mention steak before I left, and then a ceviche tostada when that wasn't quite enough food. First time trying ceviche, so that was quirky for sure! Jon asked if I could switch days this week - I told him that he should ask Harmony first before making executive decisions like that, and he said that it did come from her. Okay then, I can switch from Tuesday to Monday this week. I made sure my blog drafts were tagged correctly and everything as soon as I got home so I didn't forget.

Jeremy and I talked about dragons and interesting topics like Greyhound not being there anymore for his Kelowna trips, and he said he could use that beer cookbook. After paying for the food, we all left at about the same time. I stopped at the door because I knew there was a step going down, and Chinese Eric wondered about that. Well, you don't want me to find out where the step is by faceplanting... he agreed, but thought I'd had eye surgery for a reason. Yes, but that doesn't mean my declining night vision has improved!

While Jon and Randal were trying to figure out whether they should go to 12 Kings, it started raining. I told them to arrive at a decision even if I'd be going home with white Eric either way since he has to get up at 7 AM tomorrow. (for some reason, Eric found it necessary to hang around while they made said decision...) We walked to Eric's car and said the necessary farewells. Once I got home at 10, I was actually able to get in fairly quickly... phew! Then I discovered that Mom apparently thinks I still know Spanish because she wanted me to translate a long document for her. Nope, I've forgotten virtually all my Spanish 9! I just told her "nope, don't know Spanish." I just wanted to relax when I got home! Jon suggested Google Translate instead.

I discovered REDRUM this morning, but still took a shower to help me feel better. After COFFEE TIME, I discovered a TOILET PLUMBING PROBLEM: IT WOULDN'T FLUSH PROPERLY! I left a note with Hester to cover my ass AND called her about it, but then I had to leave since I had no time to play phone tag! I went out at 2:55 on a 407 to help with the kids. Even after being at Marine Drive to see a 3 Downtown pull up to the stop, I wasn't even at Jon's any earlier than I was last week! Thanks, strollers and walkers which got on AND off before I left the bus at 16th! /sarcasm Yes, of course they're obviously entitled to use the bus (as are wheelchairs) - I was just glad I left a few minutes earlier than I did last week.

Beckett was sleeping when I got there; Ayler and Hiero were playing that Emoji Memory card game that I bought, so I got an answer to the question I asked Jon about what they do when the baby is supposed to be sleeping. Otherwise, I'd have asked the kids myself. Hiero tried making up his own rules: "No touching cards that other people have touched!" (which is totally nonsense for a MEMORY CARD game) and how you can shoot people who are already dead. I said those weren't fair! (they won the game and I lost - whatever) Ayler was sick because of some heatstroke at the Langley berry farm yesterday. We had a dinner of various things: macaroni and cheese, ribs, pizza, cold noodles, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, and more. Discussed power-washing balconies, Hiero spilling almond milk on the floor and my black Secret socks (I had fun telling them that I can make up my own rules too, like I can pause dinner to put on their dad's holey socks and wash my hands), some salad Mom gave them which expires today (I didn't want it to take home - so Harma tossed it), and how we shouldn't shoot people at the dinner table.

Beckett ate a bit of stuff, but was pretty much done fairly soon into his "meal." I had fun hanging out with him afterwards, though, even if he threw balls all over the place. He has new colorful soft ones, which are probably better for the downstairs neighbors complaining about everything. He seemed to like the new penguin, at least. I let him climb on me because it's cute, but watched to make sure he didn't fall off the couch or anything. The balcony is effectively closed off to him because of a rather interesting arrangement of chairs and other things. PHEW! I think he had fun chewing on his Christmas board books, too.

I left at 8 after doing some STAR WARS STORMTROOPERS summer reading with the kids, after Hiero had to go to a separate room because he was hugging a whimpering Beckett, and after I had grabbed Beckett before he got to the kids' jigsaw puzzle / after he invaded the washroom while Hiero was in the shower. I sent Mike a quick message ("thanks for the great fish head idea, Uncle Mike - says Nephew") using the Save-On wi-fi at the bus stop - thank goodness I didn't just miss the 3 Marine Drive bus! The bus driver didn't create a delay this time, but instead it was an old guy who was slow in even using his wheelchair to get on AND off the bus! Yup, he is totally entitled to use the buses (and it could be me one day), but be reasonably fast about it - come on now, other people have connections to make!

At the station, I quickly went to T&T to look for (and get) some quirky Lays chips for Rachel - Numb and Spicy Hot Pot, Wasabi, and Kimchi! I should get the Deep-Ridged ones next time: Spicy Chicken and Pork! Thank goodness I managed to get the Brighouse train home within two minutes of getting to the train area, and I FINALLY got home at 9! Thanks to the delays, I was able to text both Paulo and both Erics in detail. The toilet STILL wasn't fixed, so I had to consult V4F and then use buckets for filling up the tank. Sigh... I guess I'll have to call Hester tomorrow morning. No melatonin tonight...

Eric M. unexpectedly called me at 2:50 to say that Eric Ho and a few of the guys were going to watch the Toronto Raptors play the Golden State Warriors in an NBA playoff game (Game 2) at 12 Kings, and wondered if I'd like to go. I said sure, why not. (much better freedom without Jimmy around!) He said he'd pick me up around 4:30 or so, and did. While I was waiting, I discovered that he'd texted me about the hangout at noon. Oops! At least we managed to work it out in the end!

Then Eric managed to drop me off in front of the pub after using his phone to navigate his way to 12 Kings. I tried texting Chinese Eric to see where he was, but got no answer. Jeremy came in a few minutes later and we managed to find Chinese Eric and Randal while white Eric was parking. After saying hi, I was still not impressed, so told him to answer his fucking texts, in those words. He said that he'd been talking to Randal, but it's TIME-SENSITIVE! "WHERE ARE YOU?" should be answered IMMEDIATELY! UGH! Yes, I'm being a hypocrite about this. Oh well. Randal gave me a LOOK, but whatever. At least we can be casual acquaintances now, which is okay by me. Eric implied that he wasn't going to invite me, but since Christon was dragging Alice along, he thought of me. Gee, thanks!

We talked about Yellow Dog Play Dead IPA, sharing a platter of nachos / olives / jalapenos / cheese eventually (we paid Chinese Eric back $4.50 each), Obama being in the building for the basketball game, my Reddit mobile being VERY SLOW and not loading (but it eventually did a while later), instant noodles, spicy noodles not good for the stomach, Christon and Alice's fried food, Eric's club sandwich, current events, Jon organizing this but not making it because of teaching, and Nathan being back in town till Christon's wedding, the CFL and BC Lions games / tickets, Jeremy's brother Mark doing well in Seattle, and keeping in touch with people online. When I noticed that Randal was reading The New Evil: Understanding the Emergence of Modern Violent Crime (Michael H. Stone, Gary Brucato, Ann W. Burgess), I had to show him MY current reading material: The Most Evil Women in History (Shelley Klein) - HAHAHA! Randal mentioned that he'd thought of me while picking his book up at the library, and Jeremy laughed at the coincidence, because great minds think alike!

Chinese Eric wasn't impressed that the Raptors lost 109-104, but nobody else in the pub to watch the game was, either. He also owes me an extra 50 cents because he didn't carry cash or expect me to have the London Drugs receipt for the Indomie Mi Goreng Chitato chips. We finally left about an hour after the game, at 8:30. Those stairs at the pub are not disability-friendly since they have no handrail, forcing me to jump the last step, LIKE I DID LAST TIME ON MARCH 12! It wasn't too far to the car, which is fine. Eric got a text message while he was driving into Richmond, which he hoped wasn't Chinese Eric texting him that he was lost on the way to his own car. He said he could give me a ride to Christon's wedding (which is on the same day as Mike Kwan's), but that I'd have to remind him closer to the date since it's so far away now. I totally understand!

COFFEE TIME! Christon emailed us to propose a hockey hangout next Saturday (the 9th) at Jeremy's because Chinese Eric wants to have one. I SEE HOW IT IS! He can sacrifice a night from wedding planning for HIM, but not for my birthday?! HA! I'll have to walk to Brighouse station AGAIN for the second time in four days in a row! UGH! White Eric can't make it because of his own hockey stuff. The Canucks played Vegas at 1 today, and lost 3-0.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! HAPPY 2019!




I had to transit to King Edward Station to meet Dad there, so I left at 3:50, but had to walk back home because I realized I didn't have my bus pass. Turns out it was in the bathroom by the toilet because it fell out of my pocket! I then got to the station at 4:40, where Dad was already, but whatever. When I got to Jon and Harmony's, it was quiet hours because the baby was sleeping, but we talked to Steph on WhatsApp anyway. Mike and Sandy had been partying past midnight, haha! Ayler was practicing his handwriting and letters, while Hiero was busy punching some snow angels from a special hole punch.

We had ham, vegetables, chocolate cookies, my Loaded Potato Skins Ruffles chips, beer, and potatoes for dinner - they even invited Jeremy, and it was good to see him! He, Jon, and I talked about Origami Joe W. picking fights on Facebook (Jon says he did it on Karen's status about Conservatives to the point where Nancy had to step in to tell him to calm down!), the Reddit post about the rat in the soup at Crab Park Chowdery, Christmas / New Year's (r/wtf and r/vancouver and r/frugaljerk), and Twelve Kings pub with Eric Ho. I got to read about trains to Hiero, talk to Ayler for a bit, then play with baby Beckett, who tried eating his sock / my finger / his indestructible baby book.

Baby Beckett turned over to pick a toy up, which earned him praise from me! I also held him briefly before Dad took him from me. At least they drove me home, but ALSO gave me literal garbage to take to my place! I'm VERY sure the snack wrapper would have survived 45 minutes more in the centre console... never mind the FOUR POUNDS of Rockets, Carnaby tub of Halloween candy (another pound), and random white bra they gave me!

After DOUBLE COFFEE TIME, I left at 2:45 on a 401 for Jeremy's. I had the on-sale Brookside Chocolate bars x2 (Roasted Almond and Sea Salt / Cranberry Almond with Blood Orange Flavor) and the four NHL 100 Advent calendars / Waterbridge Belgian chocolate seashells for Jon, plus the Terry's Chocolate Orange / NHL 100 Advent calendar / Waterbridge Belgian chocolate seashells for Eric Ho. Maybe HE could drive me home, haha! It turned out he couldn't since he'd driven downtown because he wouldn't be able to get much parking! I killed 45 minutes at Kingsgate Mall, but got to Jeremy's at 4. Ayler picked up, but wouldn't buzz me into the building for some reason. I tried four times after that, and LUCKILY, Jeremy's neighbors were exiting the building and let me in! (possibly because they saw I was actively trying to be buzzed in) Later, we found out that the kids had left the phone off the hook for half an hour! UGH!

I settled in by Harmony, saying hi to her and baby Beckett, who held my finger and burbled at me. Ayler and Hiero wanted to do THUMB WAR and STELLA STELLA OLA, but I was fine with watching them (and the Rubik's Cube) instead. I read a MR. MEN book to them, plus a book on frogs and one on animal tracks and Curious George. When everyone got there, I managed to get a ride to Broadway Station from Kevin later on. Talked to Randal, SERVANTS friends (Rudy?), Christon, Dilys, Alice, Jesse, Trish, Caleb, Becky, and others about Crown Royal Black whiskey, condos, townhouses, toilets, sanitation, history, vacation, the Christmas holidays, beer, the food, white Eric, Chinese Eric, Condoleeza Rice and the Cleveland Browns, women and guns, chimeras / DNA / transgender people, Uncle Stanley's colon cancer (but he is positive about it), and more. Kevin drove me near Broadway Station at 8:50 in the freezing weather, and I got home at 9:50 on a 407. Phew!

When Andrew M. came over at 11 AM to do the computer case swap, I definitely gave him the parking pass. We talked about the microwaves, wiping the dirty counter (I did 90% of it myself with a sponge), Ziploc bags, bowls, screws, Teresa, wires, cables, personal drama, my router not working for an Internet connection after the computer case swap was done, troubleshooting via phone (which did not work), my coffee, Windows making a device driver update sound every time I moved my mouse (which didn't happen before the swap, either), and my calling Eric later. Chinese Eric called me at 2:35 while I was reading ROCK AND ROLL'S MOST WANTED, and said that he might not make it because of some extra work stuff - ugh! Kevin called me at 3 to personally wish me a happy birthday since he would actually be in Surrey, for which I thanked him. Yep, lamb would definitely be on the menu for tonight! As he said, you can get chicken anywhere!

Eric called me back at 4:30 to get more details, and since he was coming here anyway, I said he could come here at 6:30 or so... he was only seven minutes late, and noted that the router seemed overheated. I left at 6:55 for Felico's after MORE COFFEE TIME, and packed the parking pass so it would be slightly LESS hassle upon coming back here to figure things out. I had his birthday Lindt Excellence dark chocolate bars (Madagascar / Pink Peppercorn) and birthday card, for sure this time! Talked to white Eric, Chinese Eric, and Jeremy about Chrystal's unknown whereabouts, the NCIX breach, Memory Express, Jeremy's birthday card for me which fit me (nice!), Reddit, Mark's wedding, Rochester in New York, Jeremy's cousin in Edmonton, Victoria, Redmond, the RCMP, Skype, Discord, emojis ("that eggplant was 100!" "let's talk about something else, Mom..."), my parents using WhatsApp and NOT WeChat (probably), and Nathan.

We also discussed Christon being engaged (and Steph's "WHAT?!" reaction), Eric Ho mixing up MSN Messenger and Facebook Messenger, Mom thinking I was a "Hotmail expert" back in Vegas in 2012, my router problems, MAC addresses, Linux, ICQ still being around these days in Russia, my traditional lamb dinner, lamb stew, moussaka, and giving Jeremy a ride to Aberdeen Station. Eric and I got back here at 8:40, and for some reason, the router worked after a bit of fiddling. Okay, then! (afterwards, it blipped out AGAIN for a thankfully brief time)

He also fixed my mouse sound issue and the speaker wire problem - PHEW! Then I called Chrystal AGAIN after he'd left at 9-ish (I'd tried when we got in), finally getting her on the phone. She apologized profusely and said that she was half an hour late and really lost - she still could have come in and said "hey guys!" since we didn't start ordering till 7:30 or so anyway. After all that, she said that she had to make it up to me, so Friday evening at the usual place and time it is, especially if it's easier for her! PHEW! Eric M. thanked me for the birthday card and chocolate, and noted that he was glad Chrystal was okay.

I thought my BENQ computer monitor had blinked out this morning, but it just gave me a NO SIGNAL DETECTED error message, which of course I couldn't look up, so I called Eric! I tried stuff with the cables, read a lot about true crime (Max Haines!) and urban legends (Thomas Craughwell), got rid of the Hans Holzer book about ghosts since I wasn't interested in it anymore (and the print there is starting to be really small), and did some more stuff. At 4:50, I decided to try pressing the Power button AGAIN, and somehow the monitor roared back to working mode! PHEW! Of course I called white Eric to let him know about this, then called Chinese Eric to remind him about Felico's.

Hanging out at Boston Pizza for Chinese Eric's birthday!

Today is Bad Poetry Day! Eric M. called me at 12:40 to see if I wanted a ride to Boston Pizza for Chinese Eric's birthday hangout: a 1 PM BC Lions game against the Toronto Argonauts! Sure, sounded good to me, especially since I'd been going to leave in five minutes anyway! Of course I brought Chinese Eric's birthday card and on-sale Ritter Sport Dark Chocolate with Peppermint and on-sale Ritter Sport Fine Extra Dark Chocolate, which I gave to him right away! I also figured out that my own birthday dinner would probably be at Kisamos Greek Taverna in Steveston on Sunday, September 23rd. When white Eric and I got there, he checked his texts to see that Chinese Eric was already there. The difference between us and my parents: We don't say anything about Chinese Eric waiting for us at a table already, with his back turned to the door!

We discussed CASTLEVANIA, BATMAN, MARIO movies, Wally Buono / Alzheimers vs. Parkinson's, Travis Lulay, some player named Jonathan, my new glasses, catching up on Facebook, the Canucks, pre-season news, new third jerseys for the Canes / Islanders / Flyers, my new computer, Chinese Eric's helping Jon to move a bit of stuff the other day since he actually took work off for his birthday for the first time in four years. Also discussed "interesting" stories of white Eric's work (that wouldn't be a good thing when it comes to fire alarms and stuff!), the Art Gallery, eating calamari / salt and pepper chicken wings / a large Meateor pizza for the price of a Medium (Chinese Eric took the leftover pizza slices home by default), white Eric paying for everything with his credit card (but I gave him $20 for my portion, which he was fine with), replays, touchdowns, and field goals. When Eric drove me home at 4:15 after the Lions lost, I asked if he could figure out the printer while he was here. Yes, the parking pass / parking permit system is annoying! He got things working, tested things out, and left at 4:50 after I thanked him. No chocolate needed this time! Maybe I'll see him again before my birthday dinner, but who knows? The hot water still isn't back on - THE COLD WATER IS SO FREEZING!
