Leap Year Day issues! February 29!

After COFFEE TIME, I went out at 3:05 on a 407 to help with the kids... of course I just missed a 401! I still got to the station in enough time to kill time at both T&T (premium Shin Ramyun Black noodles, Palmolive Oxy Power Degreaser in an 887mL bottle - my limited Cantonese for "washing dishes" won again!) PLUS Tim Horton's where I got a cheese tea biscuit. Despite some shenanigans, I got to the apartment at about the usual time. Seemed like everyone had a cold and cough, especially Beckett, so I used his hoodie to wipe up his runny nose. Even I was getting one a bit later while reading stories to Hiero, so I used the frog blanket to wipe my own nose... it's probably not the worst thing, and I'm pretty sure they launder it anyway! When I got home, I had peppermint tea / Vitamin C / zinc / garlic.

Beckett just wanted me to get balls from his throwing them around most of the time, even when Barry called me at about 5:50 to try rescheduling a food shopping appointment AGAIN! That's fine - I just dealt with that the same way I dealt with Karen Choo calling me while I was talking to people in the car years ago, namely addressing the immediate situation while still being on the phone call. I didn't care what she thought then, and I didn't care what Barry thought if he heard "here's a boh-boh"! Later after a very early dinner of lotus soup / goji berries / kumquat / miso soup / noodles / vegetables / eggs, Beckett got a word book. I sat him in my lap and read to him, then spied a newer word book with textures. He seemed to like the OWL page at least. Showed Ayler and Hiero the contents of my wallet as I was looking for my scissors.

Later, I spied a Pokemon circle, and got some balls from way behind the couches, requiring me to move them! I got Beckett to say "please" a couple of times for that amount of effort, definitely. When he wouldn't just settle down and sleep, I was drafted in to help by just sitting by the crib to keep him company before he hopefully fell asleep. I told him that it was Auntie, got a fish cushion and the stuffed dragon from the floor to his crib, and also held his hand briefly. He didn't throw anything around - just moved them around and fell asleep within five minutes or so. Harmony thinks he just likes the company vs. being afraid of the dark - last night, she couldn't do anything much because he wanted her to sit around for two and a half hours! AIYA! I left at 7, which was SO EARLY that I got home at 8:05 on a 407. WOO!

After a shower in the afternoon, I left at 5:05 on a 407 to get to Marine Drive by about 5:30. Since the liquor store was right next door to Dublin Crossing Pub, I went there to select my Halloween 2019 beer for this season: Phillips Crookeder Ale it was! Steve took me to the meetup table - he knew what I meant by that phrase, hah! I saw Laura again, and met Jeff / Teri / a very late Evelyn. Later, I told Steve that Nate told me that he hadn't responded to some drunken nonsense from the weekend, but Steve IS busy at (not "in") work!

We talked about TORCHLIGHT, APEX, game screenshots, "electric poop," Always changing their pad packaging to appeal to trans and "non-binary" people (really?!), Michelle's love life, Brian coming to fix Laura's dresser tomorrow, Winners being upstairs, moving to a smaller table (damn high stools!), Laura's niece, my nephews, work, and other things. Then we all left at 8:20 - Laura and Teri went to Winners while Jeff happened to be going to the station as well, but he was heading to Broadway in the opposite direction! I was home at 9:05 on a 407, but I really should have left at 8 to be home half an hour earlier like I was yesterday! At least the Compass Card machines cooperated tonight...

NOTE TO SELF: According to Dan, I should have the Yorkshire Pudding and Tullamore whiskey (Johnnie Walker Black sample?) next time I'm here. Maybe I'll remember if I write it down here, haha...

I got ginger and green onion tripe for World Tripe Day tomorrow, Mamee Chicken / Vegetarian noodles, GOOD TASTE dumplings x4 (JOY dumplings being the same price now and not $1 cheaper?!), NEW Nissin Ra'Oh noodles (Citrus / Pork / Soya / Miso), bananas, NEW Earth's Own chocolate oat milk, Earth's Own regular oat milk, NEW on-sale Chapman's Strawberry Shortcake ice cream, Catelli Smart rotini / Catelli Smart penne, Scaries, Hunt's Snack Pack chocolate fudge / tapioca puddings, on-sale Awkward / Irritable / Indecisive Snickers bars, NEW on-sale Nature Valley granola cups (Peanut Butter Chocolate / Almond Butter), on-sale Prego Fresh Mushroom pasta sauce, NEW Liberté raspberry Skyr yogurt, NEW Tokyo Mini Instant Noodles in Mild Curry flavor, a Stouffer's Sauté Sensations Chicken Alfredo microwaveable meal, and a NEW Swanson Skillet Garlic Shrimp microwaveable meal. After that, I checked my mail: I got my bus pass replacement application! I paid my Shaw and hydro bills plus the $10 replacement fee online at home.

Every time someone uses "body count" to describe their number of sex partners, I think: "HOW MANY PEOPLE DID YOU KILL?!?" because THAT is what "body count" really means! Millennials and Gen Z zoomers, I swear...

Today is Mother's Day 2019. I was slightly awoken by the sun in the window, then by quick footsteps outside the bedroom door. Later, it turned out to be Declan and Elysse running into their parents' room to wish Deb a Happy Mother's Day at 5 AM! SO EARLY, kids! We had a rushed breakfast of cranberry and raisins Post cereal with milk and Nutella croissants before church. Elysse wondered if I was "too fat" to fit into the backseat of the van because I sat up front with Dylan instead. WHAT THE HELL?! First, I'm an alien, and now I'm fat?! Her parents made her apologize to me and said that was not very nice and hurt my feelings. Declan said that I wasn't fat - thank you! We actually had great parking luck across the street from the church at 9:45 - nobody had taken up all the good spots before the liquor store!

Church service was fine - I like how Pastor Dan acknowledged the strained relationships that some people may have with their mothers on this day. I caught up with Emily, Auntie Catherine, Stella, Joe T., Benedict, Rosenda, Helen C., David Marr, Lawrence, Jason, Vicky, baby Lucas, Martin T., and some other people. I only had to interact with Mom for a minute; thank goodness I could use eye surgery as an excuse for not doing anything for Mother's Day OR her birthday on the 14th! We eventually got going and eventually went to Kyoto Takenoko at Seafair Centre for lunch, hoping that fussy Elysse would eat SOMETHING. I had the spicy miso ramen and one gyoza.

While we were at Shoppers afterwards looking at Minions toothbrushes and other things, I decided that I might as well buy three yellow, black, and salmon BATH RETREAT shower puffs since Price Smart hadn't had any when I was last there. I guess I'll have to live with the string not fitting over the shower head properly. We had lamb chops, white wine, bok choy, mussels, and rice for dinner while Dylan's parents were over. Later, it was CHUTES AND LADDERS time with Popsicles and Coke! Deb and Dylan had finally completed a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle a while ago and wanted to hang it up in the living room. NICE!

I woke up to NO WATER PRESSURE AT ALL at 7:30 AM, with NO NOTICES about it! NOT ACCEPTABLE! I very politely called Hester at 8:45 AM, who said that it was an emergency for the whole building, and that it should be fixed then. I tested it out using both sinks and the toilet, and it seemed that way... PHEW! After I had COFFEE TIME, Barry picked me up at 11:50 and we went banking and to Price Smart. I bought NEW Bassili's Best shepherd's pie which expires in 2020, NEW Mott's Clamato Caesar Pickled Bean Caesar tomato juice, on-sale V8 tomato juice (CHILDHOOD MEMORIES!), an on-sale beef teriyaki bowl which expires tomorrow (hey, at least they had the good sense to discount it, unlike with the spicy pig ears last week...), Shin Ramyun BLACK noodles, Vedan spicy mushroom noodles, on-sale Ben & Jerry's ice cream x6 (Cherry Garcia / Chocolate Fudge Brownie / Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough / Chocolate Therapy / If I Had 1,000,000 Flavors / Half-Baked), CLR for the kitchen (beats going to the bathroom for it every single time...), and JOY dumplings x4.

Also bought Nongshim Korean claypot miso ramyun noodles, on-sale NEW Lemon-Lime Gatorade x6, on-sale Western Family perogies x2 (potatoes and cottage cheese / potatoes and cheddar cheese), NEW on-sale Western Family vanilla Greek yogurt, on-sale Kozy Shack tapioca pudding, NEW Late July mild Green Mojo tortilla chips, on-sale Silk almond milk, NEW Hua Diao Chinese cooking wine noodle soup, replacement Club House coarse grind black pepper (I'm not sure how old the current one is...), NEW Sichuan Bahia broad vermicelli chili oil noodles, NEW Shirakiku Goku-Uma ramen noodles, and more! After (MORE) COFFEE TIME, I left at 3:40 to make it to Jon's by 4:30. Thanks to a lucky red traffic light at Richmond Centre (and a lot of running across the street and into the station - untied shoelaces be dammed) and bus bunching at Langara, I was able to make it to the house on time! I decided to go from the back alley this time, and am JUST tall enough to be able to see into the back window (for the engagement photos) to check whether I am tapping on the right window (easier to hear than the doorbell - as was proved later by Jeff trying to get in) before I look like a crazy lady. Struggles of being short! Ayler opened the door for me again, and Hiero said that maybe I had been a bad person. Jon was curious whether Mom and Dad had told him about bad people, to put that into his brain and mouth! Wasn't me, that's for sure - I was just joking about it AFTER he said that! Then I asked him whether Steph had mailed him the baby card for Henry (nope), and whether Harmony had decided on a date for the family Xmas dinner - New Year's is fine by me. The kids just played at "making igloos" with the science kit while I put some spare copy paper from my place on the table. You can't say no to that, although I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Not like I'm going to do it every week or even every month! I also got A LOT of enjoyment out of reading EVERYONE POOPS by Taro Gomi, which Jon deliberately borrowed from the library. Hiero enjoyed pointing out the animal poo, hahahaha. (then I read THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE and PINOCCHIO to him when he was upset later)

We had a dinner of chili, miso soup, and rice before I did some of the dishes to help out. Hiero complained that Jeff's violin was too loud, and covered his ears to protect himself. Jon had to talk to him about that. I can understand that the frequency in such close quarters would be too much, but compared to the Shark Club and other loud bars, it was actually not bad for me! Later, Ayler and Hiero fought over a piece of paper when there were plenty around on the table. Hiero went for his brother's eyes while Ayler wanted to hit him with his foot before going for a pincer attack with his legs. At least there's some sort of strategy, although I told Ayler that hitting his brother was NOT a choice out of either drawing or reading stories with me. Then he asked why baby Henry was the only person allowed to touch my hat - because Henry cannot pull off my hat from my head yet! He then counted the numbers on the calendar squares. I left before 7 (almost following Jeff out the door), and it was nice when Hiero told me to be careful. Thank goodness Langara College has plenty of lights! I got home at 7:40 on a 407, deciding that it wasn't worth it to go to the post office if the bus was going to come in two minutes. The Canucks played Winnipeg at 5 today, and lost 5-1... OUCH!

41st birthday celebration at Mega Sushi in Steveston! / Dumplings galore!

Vanessa came over from UBC after work, so I had MORE COFFEE TIME while she was here, haha. She also took photos of my GOOD TASTE dumplings and my JOY dumplings for me! We talked about the Food Ranger guy on Youtube and his DEATH SPICY HOT POT CHALLENGE, her family, what she got me for my birthday, scary people like Rasputin and killer nurses, GWAR, snacks, borrowing my fridge, opening the Ramnune, Then we were off to Mega Sushi in Steveston for my birthday dinner with her, Christon, Eric M., and Laurie. Turns out Christon and Laurie were there first, but I did explain about the reservation time change. We talked about abscesses, health, brains, getting a ride from Eric for next week's dinner, Willingdon church, livestreaming church services, the Canucks, what I did for my birthday, Brad Best, healthcare in the US, paying for my meal, Eric's card and chocolates, and life. It was pretty fun, and Vanessa dropped me off at 8:50 before heading for home herself.

Sushi boat for two from MEGA SUSHI in Steveston: Appetizer tempura, big boss roll, California roll, two pieces of tuna sashimi, two pieces of salmon sashimi, two pieces of ebi, ebi sunomono, and miso soup!

Birthday stuff from Vanessa: Dutch chips (Bali Kroepoek), Dutch chocolate sprinkles (Quino boterhamkorrels) to be used on toast, and five Mentos flavors: Strawberry Shake / Banana Shake / Peach Shake, Tutti-Frutti, Fresh Cola, Strawberry-Lime, and Cinnamon!
